The other type of water innovation

Further to my post about how far we have to go on getting water efficiency into the mainstream, a few developments from the world of bathroom design that probably won't be getting a Waterwise Marque for water efficiency any time soon.

First up, the steam shower with whirlpool from Aquinox. Not only does this enormous gold shower unit come with a whirlpool, 10 wall massage jets, a hand shower, a rainfall top shower and a steam function, there's also a foot massage, radio, cd player, hands free telephone and built-in TV screen. There is also a four-person version, but with more than six jets I don't think it's quite what the green movement meant with its "save water, bath with a friend" message.

Don't want a full whirlpool with TV? How about a Kohler WaterHaven? This one only has seven different highly-powered shower heads. The manufacturer recommends you "close the doors, get comfortable..." and forget about conserving water.

And then there's the tap that automatically recognises your face and shows you your emails. I, for one, have never wished that I could check my emails whilst washing my hands. Am I missing the connection here? Is this for the hard-core blackberry addicts who can't stand to be separated from their emails during those precious seconds whilst their hands are wet?
