EDF Energy to the rescue

Disco.jpg

Pupil power: hats off to the staff at EDF Energy’s West Burton power station. They stepped into the breach when faced with a community cry for help after last month’s floods devastated North Leverton Primary School and left the school building water-logged – and unsafe. Head teacher Kevin Bacon made a plea to local businesses in that part of Nottinghamshire to see if anyone could accommodate the school so it could complete its academic year. West Burton came to the rescue: staff converted the site’s sports and social club and adjacent tennis court into classrooms and a playground. So pedagogy has been practised in the shadow of the coal station’s cooling towers, as our picture shows.
