You're never too old

The great man notes that Eon UK, sponsor of the FA Cup, has launched a search for the oldest football team in Britain.

Clubs have been asked to add players’ ages together and enter the total. A thermal “Stay Warm” kit will go the winners. The idea is to publicise the need for older people to keep warm in winter.
Eon’s Jean Webb has put together a team with a combined age of 676. But then it did include the following: Peter Shilton (58), Jack Charlton (72), Jimmy Armfield (72), Stuart Pearce (45), Kevin Keegan (56), Bobby Charlton (70), Tom Finney (85), Chris Waddle (46), Paul Gascoigne (40), Jimmy Greaves (67) and Geoff Hurst (65)… some of whom are now, er, dead.
