Good to see the Conservatives are staunchly behind the aims of this magazine’s Look Smart campaign to persuade energy minister Malcolm Wicks of the merits of smart metering over dumb electricity displays.
That said, the party’s shadow energy bod Charles Hendry MP may be getting a tad over-zealous. Performing Cameron-style without the safety net of notes or PowerPoint at a conference last week, the great man (Hendry, not Disconnector) warned of the dangers of “grannies being electrocuted” as they tried to install the display devices.
“That’s one way of reducing demand,” he quipped, quickly adding: “But not one we advocate.”
Quite.
