Santa's little helper

Here’s a spot of seasonal advice from the great man. Flummoxed by Xmas present buying? Fear not, help is at hand.

Disconnector was much taken with the following: a solar wind turbine. Now, as the makers freely admit, that might seem a bizarre, but what we’re talking about here is an indoor desk accessory, small enough to fit on a dashboard if you are so inclined.
“Just place the turbine in bright sunshine or your desk light and the blades will whirl round. Wind or no wind, it should carry on pretending to create power and remind us all how we should think about being a little bit greener,” says the blurb from web-based Lazyboneuk.
The device comes as a kit, but the makers insist it only takes a few minutes to put together. “Even the most incompetent DIY’ers should be able to bungle this together. Green or not, it’s still a pretty cool desk accessory,” insists the retailer.
Clearly a snip at £19.99. Or maybe not.
If that doesn’t press your prezzie button, there’s always the gift-wrapped bottles of water available at the Topshop’s biggest stores in Birmingham, Cardiff, Dublin, Glasgow, Leeds, London, Manchester and York. The bottles sell at £10 each and, it is claimed, all the dosh goes to a charity that raises money to provide clean water in Africa.
(That’s enough gift ideas, Ed.)
