The following has a smattering of Sod’s Law about it and more than a dollop of poetic justice. Kevin Roxburgh is head of debt at British Gas and recently wrote to a female customer threatening to cut off her supply for non-payment of previous bills.
As well as the disconnection threat, there were charges for letters, reconnecting the supply and the princely sum of £361 to pay for various bits of legal warranty. A tidy sum.
The customer under the cosh was one Steph Booth. Her stepdaughter is a rather well-known legal eagle. And her stepson was, until recently, the occupant of
No 10. Said Steph has apparently paid the offending bill… some time before the very heavy threats materialised.
Everyone makes mistakes, right?
