Gazprom rocks!

A slap on the wrist is due for the team of all the talents that masterminds Disconnector each week. Last week, the column may have given the impression that National Grid was involved in building two LNG terminals at Milford Haven.

It isn’t, of course. But it is behind the gas pipeline project that is connecting said terminals to the National Transmission System. The perpetrator of that error will be forced to listen to Deep Purple’s greatest (and not so great) hits on a continuous loop for a weekend.
Why such aural and musical torture, asks the great man? Well, it transpires that those heavy metal dinosaurs are apparently the favourites of Dmitry Medvedev, Gazprom chairman and the anointed heir to the presidency of Mother Russia. Medvedev is set to be Putin’s successor.
Is it apt, deeply worrying or a tribute to the power of rock that the president to be of the country that produced Tchaikovsky, Borodin, Rimsky Korsakov, Prokofiev, Rachmaninov, Stravinsky and Shostakovich prefers grizzled heavy metallers from Hertfordshire?
It could be worse. Medvedev could have fallen under the spell of Iron Maiden.
