Contractors in Aberdeenshire working on a sewerage project for Scottish Water got more than they bargained for when a less-than-wise tawny owl was found in pipe work and in need of rescue. The bird was discovered after it attempted to make a nest inside a pipe holding up power cables. When high winds prompted subcontractor D&E Mackay to inspect the pipe, they noticed feathers falling out. On closer inspection, a rather confused tawny owl was discovered inside. Once it was extricated and after getting its bearings, it flew off into nearby woods. “It was a very unusual incident,” said project manager Glenn Ford.
