One contributor to a staff and skills feature in this week’s issue says that utilities find it hard to attract women (though there are exceptions to that rule)...
However, there is one industry in which ladies are very firmly in charge. Consider the water sector. There, Ofwat (Regina Finn), Water UK (Pamela Taylor), the Consumer Council for Water (Yve Buckland), the Environment Agency (Barbara Young) and the Drinking Water Inspectorate (Jeni Colbourne) all have the firm hand of a woman at the helm.
That’s a straight flush, gender-speaking. And the great man hasn’t even mentioned Katharine Bryan at Northern Ireland Water. Doesn’t sound like so much of a glass ceiling in the water sector, does it?
