These walls are paper thin

The arrival of water competition for Scottish business customers has seen Scottish Water split into retail and wholesale operations. The dividing line is not entirely clear cut physically or geographically, since retail subsidiary Business Stream is co-located at Scottish Water’s Fairmilehead office in Edinburgh.

There are, of course, Chinese walls between the two companies, but one new entrant famously described said walls as “paper rather than glass”.
The Scottish water regulator, Wics, is concerned enough to be keeping an eye on proceedings and has already taken action over what he saw as possible bias over trade effluent.
A colleague of the great man was in the building’s canteen recently and was told that only Ronnie Mercer, chairman of both Scottish Water and Business Stream, had a security pass allowing him access to all areas. “Yeah, him and the cleaners,” pointed out a wag on an adjoining table.
