Local heroics
Quick-thinking Paul Talbot almost certainly saved a baby's life when he chanced upon the choking tot. Paul, who works for South East Water contractor Holleran, was laying a water main in the Berkshire village of Shurlock Row when a distraught woman emerged from a house with a limp child over her arm. Paul sprang into action.
"I just went into overdrive... I grabbed Daniel from her arms, hung him downwards and gave him strong, sharp pats on the back to dislodge the food." He's been given a bottle of whisky and a mug emblazoned with the word Hero, and a heartfelt thank you from baby Daniel's mother, Michaela. Nice one.
