Spellbound, again and again
Nine-year-old Martha Gibbon is transfixed by this seasonal scene at the Cathedral Church of St Nicholas, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, created by a team of 31 local apprentices from recycled material collected by staff from Northumbrian Water. The eye-catching project made use of 1,650 plastic sample bottles, 1,200 plastic bottle tops and three bales of cardboard. The reverend Canon Robert Gage said: "This is one of the most unusual nativity scenes we've ever had on display. It shows that the nativity story can be endlessly renewed and recycled."
