Gazprom is growing too big, even for the Russians
Feathers have been ruffled in St Petersburg over plans for a 77-storey skyscraper in the heart of the historic city, courtesy of gas giant Gazprom.
Unesco is not amused. It has complained that the proposed 400m tower would spoil the city's elegant skyline.
Thousands of people opposed to the plans protested in the city last weekend. They appealed to the Russian president to ban the construction of the edifice.
That struck the great man as rather naive. The Russian president is, after all, one Dmitry Medvedev. And he was once chairman of - yes, you've remembered - Gazprom.
