Low tech, no tech
A recent poll by Lewis PR, a marketing and press agency, revealed that technological nous may not be us Britons' strongest suit.
Apparently, one in ten Brits think Apple founder Steve Jobs is a trade union leader. A further 20 per cent had no clue who he is, and one in twenty thought he earned a living as a Division Two footballer.
A quarter of respondents did not identify Sir Tim Berners-Lee as a key founder of the internet. Around 9 per cent of those polled thought he was head of MI5. Some 6 per cent thought he was an arctic explorer, and 5 per cent the first British astronaut into space (surely that was Dan Dare?).
Despite the rising popularity of social networking sites, 11 per cent of those quizzed by Lewis could not name a single one.
The survey of 1,000 people revealed that 4 per cent did not identify phishing as that ruse used by cyber criminals keen on a spot of identity theft. Oh no, these boys and girls said phishing was an angling method used by Eskimos.
All Disconnector will say is that was, surely, an easy mistake to make.
