Pictured is Durham's chief constable Jon Stoddart and top cycle riders from the Pinerello team who were getting into shape at Northumbrian Water's Derwent reservoir near Consett. The top cop is a keen amateur rider. They were checking out the route of one of Britain's top road races, which will involve cyclists racing seven times round the reservoir, a distance of 84 miles, at speeds up to 60mph. More than 100 elite and Olympic male riders, the crème de la crème of British cycling, are scheduled to take part in the race on Sunday 28 March. The event will be the first of the 2010 British Cycling road race calendar and is being organised by the Tyne Valley Cycling Club with support from the water company.
