Using Utility Week Jobs

Why use Utility Week Jobs?

Utility Week Jobs is a job site which enables jobseekers to search and apply for jobs online that are advertised by recruiters. Recruiters are defined as ‘employers’ or ‘recruitment agencies’ who have been carefully selected by employers to source candidates on their behalf.

Once you’ve applied for a job on Utility Week Jobs it’s the responsibility of the recruiter to contact you directly. Utility Week Jobs is not part of the recruitment and selection process and we do not short-list candidates.

Searching for jobs from the homepage

The main search form on the homepage allows you to select a job role, a location, and specify your salary or rate. You can also include keywords that you want to appear in the job description of the job you are looking for e.g. Project Engineer or System Analyst (See below for details).

When you're satisfied with your selection, you simply click on the 'Search' button and let Utility Week Jobs generate a list of every matching job vacancy.

Searching for jobs using keyword/s

This is particularly useful when you have a specific job title or skill you are looking for, or when you want to exclude certain words from your job results.

The best words to use as search terms are those that usually only appear in the title or description of the jobs you are looking for. If your line of work requires a particular qualification or skill, using terms like Project Engineer can quickly find relevant jobs. Please note that common words such as 'it', 'the', and 'of' cannot be used for searching.

You can further refine your search by looking for particular phrases or combining words using AND, OR, AND NOT, " " or *.

Here are a few examples:

Mechanical AND Engineer
This combination will find advertised vacancies that contain both the words 'Mechanical' and 'Engineer', but not necessarily together.

Mechanical OR Engineer
This combination will find advertised vacancies that contain either the word 'Mechanical' or 'Engineer'. This is a broad search, and will return many results.

Engineer AND NOT Project
This combination will find advertised vacancies that contain the word 'Engineer' but NOT the word 'Project'. This is useful if there are jobs that you do not wish to see in your results.

"Mechanical Engineer"
Include " " around the phrase and only vacancies containing this phrase will be included in the job results.

If you want to open your search to include all the variations of a word, just add an asterisk after the 'stem'. For example if you type Man* the results would include 'Manager' and 'Managerial'.

Browsing by job role

To help you find the right position, you can search by common job roles. In the "Browse Jobs" section at the bottom of the home page, click on the role you are interested in. You will then see job results specifically for that job role.

You can also refine your search by location or job type.

If the browse jobs page doesn't include the one you are looking for, try using our keyword search on the homepage, or browse by A-Z from the bottom of the Home Page to view the latest jobs for a specific Company.

Browsing by A-Z

To find jobs advertised by a specific Company, you can use our Browse by A-Z page.

Click on a letter or 0-9 at the bottom of the Home Page and all the companies whose names begin with that letter will be displayed. Click on the company name to view their latest job vacancies and other information. You can refine your search by location or job type.

Searching Who’s Recruiting

Using Saved Searches

If you have carried out a search you are happy with, and want to use again, click on the 'save this search' link on the results page. A window will appear, where you will be asked to name your search. When you click on 'Save new search', your search will be saved, and you can access it from the 'Saved Searches' button on the left hand menu.

Please note that you will need to be logged in to the site using 'My Account'.

Your search is saved to the PC you are currently using.

To manage your searches, click on the ‘Saved Searches’ link on the navigation bar. From here, you can create a new saved search or delete an existing saved search.
