Affinity Water accepts Ofwat’s final determination

Affinity Water has become the latest water company to accept the final determination set out by Ofwat.

The water only company has accepted the regulator’s price controls for the period 2015-20 and is now moving ahead with investing more than £500 million into improving water infrastructure over the next five years, whilst also cutting bills in real terms by 5 per cent over the same period.

Affinity Water’s director of customer relations Vincent Muldoon said: “We will provide good value for money for customers by making additional efficiency savings and further reducing leakage.

“Our Water Saving Programme will also help us conserve scarce resources and leave more water in the environment.”

The Water Saving Programme is designed to encourage the more efficient use of water and reduce the amount of water taken from the environment by 42 million litres per day by 2020.

Affinity Water also plans to cut leakage over the next five years by a further 14 per cent, which will save more than 27 million litres per day.

The company follows a number of other water companies, including Severn Trent, United Utilities, and Anglian Water in accepting the final determinations, which were set out by Ofwat on 12 December.

The deadline for a company to accept the final determination, or refer the final determination to the Competition and Markets Authority is 12 February.
