European regulators seek to harmonise import/export rules for power

European energy regulators have asked for comments on the way capacity on the region's interconnectors - grid links that transfer power across national boundaries - are allocated.
Ergeg, the group of regulators, asked for comments on a benchmarking report on the existing allocations.
The regulators believe that there is an urgent need to harmonise the way capacity is allocated across the bloc, in order to reduce congestion and allocate capacity more efficenctly.
The UK has an electricity interconnector linking it to France and a second, liniking to the Netherlands, is underconstruction. Plans are well under way for additional interconnectors with Ireland and new links with mainland Europe have been proposed.
Interested parties are invited to submit comments by 14 May 2010 and these should be sent by e-mail to: Benchmark_LT_auction_rules@ergeg.org.
