TenneT to plan offshore grid![]() A Dutch government proposal to make TenneT responsible for a planned offshore electricity transmission grid will enable "optimal integration" of the Dutch network with the wider European network, says the company. TenneT is already responsible for the management of the Netherlands' high voltage grid and says that it is "delighted" that Minister Van der Hoeven of Economic Affairs has announced the formulation of a bill that would extend its responsibilities offshore. The Dutch government wants to increase the country's wind energy capacity to 6GW by 2020. Part of this target would be met through offshore wind farms. TenneT says that it has already started preparing plans for an offshore grid, including a project to bring offshore wind energy onshore at Borssele and IJmuiden. Work has also started on working out the technical specifications of the offshore installations and cable routes. Source: Utility Week © Faversham House Group Ltd 2010.
