Utility engineering firm to recruit 350 staff but cries foul on monopoly networks

Independent multi-utility firm Energetics Networked Energy says aims to quadruple its 120-strong workforce by 2014 as it continues its expansion south of Scotland.
The company has completed 500 projects since launching last year and has 200 currently underway, including a £6 million contract at Media City, Manchester (pictured).
However, chief executive, Bill McClymont, has called on Ofgem to put pressure on monopoly companies with regards to connections charges. "In many cases [getting connection charges information] can take months, by which time customers can become frustrated and revert to the incumbent provider," he said.
McClymont added charges levied by monopoly network companies are "so punitive they leave independents with little or no margin".
He also urged government to provide finance guarantees to help independents secure capital.
