Eon smart meter trial shows 9 per cent reduction in energy consumption

A smart metering project lead by Eon over the last 18 months has shown householders in Kettering are reducing energy consumption by around 9 per cent a year.
The trial involves nearly 500 homes which have been fitted with dual fuel smart meters and in house displays or computer software providing realtime data on energy consumption, carbon emissions and energy costs.
Cutting nine per cent of the average annual duel fuel bill, says the firm, equates to a saving of about £109.
Kettering Borough Council has further incentivised trial participants with discounts on council tax for those who reduce consumption by at least 5 per cent.
