Airvolution looks to water and network companies as it seeks wind farm sites

A newly formed development company that aims to install 200MW of sub-10MW windfarms across the UK has thrown out an invitation to landowners - including water companies - to put forward development sites. The new company, known as Airvolution Energy, has been created by Novus Modus, a cleantech and renewable energy fund backed by ESB. It will be led by Kevin McNamara, a former managing director at ESB International. The new company will bring together expertise from onshore wind energy developer PEP, and property specialist Savills. The property specialist - which has previously plavced around 5000 telecoms towers on sites across the country, will manage the site selection and planning processes. Richard Nourse, managing partner of Novus Modus, said Airvolution hoped to have an enthusiastic response from groups such as utilities and especially water companies who had developed sites, such as wastewater treatment works, with suitable wind conditions. Philip Gready, director of Savills Energy, said: "Combining the wind development expertise and financial resources of ESB together with Savills' access to property, its planning and land acquisition expertise will give renewed focus and necessary skill set to the sub - 10MW wind market. It will kickstart this sector and allow landlords to develop the full potential of their wind resource with a trusted partner."
