Scottish and Southern invests in local offshore wind turbine supply chain

A £6 million package for a new offshore wind turbine substructure factory, and investment by Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE), will secure up to 400 jobs at Fife-based BiFab.
The firm has been offered £2 million in grants and a £4 million loan from Scottish Enterprise to help finance the new facility which will make Jacket substructures for offshore wind turbines. BiFab is keen to support UK Round 3 projects, which are scheduled to commence mid-decade.
As well as taking a 15% equity stake for £11 million, SSE has signed an agreement with BiFab for the supply of at least 50 jacket substructures per annum commencing around 2014 for a period of 10 to 12 years
