Dong Energy wins Anholt wind farm concession![]() Dong Energy is to invest DKK10 billion in the construction of a major new wind farm off the Danish island of Anholt. The utility has been awarded the rights to develop the 400 MW facility by the Danish Energy Agency and says that the project will bring it a step closer to its vision of supplying carbon-free energy. Under the terms of its contract, Dong must ensure that the Anholt wind farm starts supplying energy by the end of 2012 and complete commissioning by the end of 2013. If it does not meet these targets it will face penalties such as a reduced tariff income. The wind farm will be equipped with 111 Siemens 3.6 MW wind turbines. Siemens will also install and commission the turbines and provide service and maintenance for five years. "Building Anholt offshore wind farm is an important milestone in the expansion ?of green energy production in Denmark. Dong Energy is therefore happy to build ?Denmark's next large wind farm," said Anders Eldrup, CEO of Dong. Dong has an impressive offshore wind portfolio, having built the UK's 209 MW Horns Rev 2 facility, currently the world's largest offshore wind farm. It is also building three other offshore wind farms in the UK. Source: Utility Week © Faversham House Group Ltd 2010. News articles may be copied or forwarded
