Five year Scottish Road Works Register contract awarded

The Scottish Road Works Commissioner has awarded a five year contract for provision of the Scottish Road Works Register (SRWR) to Symology. Extending its current contract, the firm will add extra services including centralised access to electronic underground apparatus records.
The SRWR enables 33 roads authorities and 26 utility firms to manage and co-ordinate street works, helping to bring down costs and traffic disruption. The system also encourages best practice, enables fault reporting and provides a platform for exchange of plant information ahead of works reducing the risk of damage to existing installations.
England and Wales does not have a similar central system, instead using disparate registers at each local authority. NJUG spokesperson Les Guest said it was a "great shame" a national register could not be established. "SRWR is the way forward," he said. "It is an excellent model."
