Firmus Energy freezes NI domestic gas prices for 12 months![]() Northern Ireland supplier Firmus Energy announced today that it will be holding current gas prices for a further twelve months. The company slashed its domestic gas prices by more than 17 per cent last year. Mark Prentice, managing director of Firmus Energy, said: "In February 2009 we made a unique promise to our customers that natural gas from Firmus would continue to be cheaper than oil. We are delighted to confirm that over the last 12 months, our gas prices have been on average 25 per cheaper than oil. Taking into account the higher energy efficiency of a new gas boiler, this means a saving of over £434 per year for homes using natural gas compared to oil". He added: "We hope that our price freeze will be welcome news for everyone, but particularly for those on lower incomes where we know that the cost of fuel is a major issue". Meanwhile across the border, the Electricity Supply Board announced that while it will not increase electricity prices for domestic customers, bills will rise by an average of 5 per cent because the Public Service Obligation (PSO) Levy is applicable from 1st October 2010. Despite the rise, the firm pointed out that prices will remain seven per cent lower than in 2008. Source: Utility Week © Faversham House Group Ltd 2010. News articles may be copied or forwarded
