Welsh Water access pricing was unfair, says Competition Appeal Tribunal![]() The Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT) said last week that Welsh Water abused its dominant position by charging Albion Water an excessive and unfair access price in 2001. Albion was unhappy with the price quoted by Welsh Water for supplying water to an inset appointment for a large industrial customer, Shotton Paper Mill. It took the case to the CAT after Ofwat said the price quoted was fair. A spokeswoman from the regulator welcomed the clarity brought by the judgment and said it needed time to consider it. Albion Water's managing director, Jerry Bryan, said: "Now that we have been proved right in relation to both the margin squeeze and the pricing issue, we have to make sure that Welsh Water puts right the damage that it has caused." Welsh Water said it had always aimed to set its prices in a fair and legal way. Source: Utility Week © Faversham House Group Ltd 2008. News articles may be copied or forwarded
