New smart gas meter model launched![]() Navetas Energy Management Ltd has joined forces with leading gas meter maker George Wilson Industries (GWI) to develop and launch a smart gas meter for the UK market. The companies claim this meter, known as the Navetas Zeo, will incorporate high tech fibre optics to deliver low cost and intrinsically safe communications. The Zeo will offer instantaneous gas flow measurement, load profiling, secure serial data output, pre-payment and pay as you go applications. Chris Saunders, chief executive officer of Navetas Energy Management insisted the new meter would provide "a new low cost option for the UK gas meter market. Our cost model demonstrates that we can save the average household at least £60 worth of installation costs when a refurbished meter is utilised". The Navetas Zeo gas meter will be officially launched at the beginning of October and will be available for mass deployment from the second quarter of 2010. Malcolm Worthington, managing director, GWI said: "Working with Navetas has provided us with an opportunity to be part of providing an innovative solution as we move into the smart meter era".
