RWE Npower chief executive to step down

Andrew Duff, chief executive of RWE Npower, is to step down in December, the company has announced. Duff will become non-executive chairman of the company in January next year. The new chief executive will be Volker Beckers, who has been chief financial officer at the company since 2003. Beckers will be replaced as CFO by Frank Weigand, who is currently head of Group Controlling at parent company RWE since 2007. RWE chief executive Jürgen Grossmann said: "Andrew Duff has provided RWE npower with outstanding leadership during a time of rapid change across the UK energy sector. He has been instrumental in transforming the company's generation portfolio and putting in place the building blocks to enable npower to become a leading energy retailer."
