Thames Water seeks customer info on burst pipes - and warns of more in the thaw![]() Thames Water has sent out an update to all its customers asking them to make sure they report leaks - and be prepared for more burst pipes when the thaw arrives. The company asked for calls about leaks on 24-hour freephone 0800 714 614 and has set up a dedicated website with information about major bursts. It even sent out a video appeal on Youtube). In a statement, the company said: "The cold weather has doubled the number of burst water pipes across London and the Thames Valley. At this time of year Thames Water would normally expect to have a backlog of 200 leaks to fix but the current list is 400. "Jerry White, head of operational control, said: "We're busy but we're totally prepared for this and we've got the manpower and resources to tackle the increased workload. "The conditions are the main challenge: getting around is so much more difficult and jobs are taking longer than usual because of all the snow and ice. Please bear with us, we're doing our best. "And please remember we really need customers' help: you're our eyes and ears, so if you spot a leak or burst don't assume we know about it - call and check our website to see if we're on the case already. "The full extent of the problem is likely to emerge after the snow melts, so, once again: please bear with us. We're really grateful for your help."
