Tim Yeo deselected

The chair of the Energy and Climate Change select committee (ECCC) Tim Yeo has been deselected by his local party.

Yeo has not been re-adopted as a candidate for the 2015 general election by the South Suffolk Conservative Association.

The South Suffolk MP said he will give his successor his “full and unqualified support”.

The ECCC chair has been an MP since 1983 and served as a minister in the Home Office, Foreign Office and Department of Health in John Major and Margaret Thatcher’s governments in the 1980s and 1990s.

Yeo’s deselection came three days after Anne McIntosh, chair of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Select Committee (EFRA), was deselected by her local party in her Thirsk and Malton constituency.
