Career
Moved to Bilbao in northern Spain after university. Spent two years teaching business English at an academy and undertook a European MBA. Returned to England in 2001 and joined Michael Page, then ECHM. Joined Interim Partners, a provider of interim management solutions, in 2007.

What was your first job?
Milk boy. I worked three mornings a week and had to wake up at 4.30am. It was great exercise. Early morning is still my favourite time of day.

What are the best and worst parts of your job?
I enjoy meeting both clients and interim managers. There are many talented individuals in the industry and a great deal is changing. I think some businesses in the sector have been slow to acknowledge the value of interim managers.

What's your dream job and why?
It would be great to be a professional ski instructor. I could spend half the year in Europe and half the year in South America or New Zealand.

What's your most treasured possession?
Photographs of holidays and family occasions.

Where did you last go on holiday?
My wife and I joined some friends in Spain who own a boat and sailed across to Ibiza. Despite its reputation Ibiza is a beautiful island.

In the Hollywood film of your life, who would play you?
Harry Enfield, most people think I look like him - hopefully not Tim Nice-But-Dim.

Reveal something about yourself not many people know.
I was part of a failed expedition to Mount McKinley in Alaska when I was 19. We had made good progress but were pinned down by atrocious weather high on the mountain. I've promised myself a successful return before I am 40.

What album is currently in your car CD player?
Keane's Perfect Symmetry, although I normally listen to the radio.

What's your favourite film and TV programme?
Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven, a brilliant western. I don't watch TV regularly but I did enjoy Niall Ferguson's recent series The Ascent of Money.

What quote or saying do you most overuse?
At home I often begin a statement with "I know it sounds daft...", even though what follows is often perfectly reasonable.

If you ruled the world, what would you do first?
Invest massive amounts in nuclear and renewable energy. I would also ensure that anyone who studies an engineering or science discipline pays no tuition fees or accommodation costs subject to assuming a position within a relevant industry.

What's your favourite joke?
A toothless beaver walks into a bar and says: "Is the bar tender?"
